A Podcast. Three narrative devices: the MacGuffin, Red Herring and Cuttlefish.

This podcast was released on December 31, 2019 and, of course, it is still relevant. Well, mostly relevant, I'd say.

To explain, at the time of this recording, I had just finished the first draft of my first thriller and was celebrating. So the part about my thriller is very dated...although I did finish it: "Claim Denied" and went on to write the sequel, "What Lies Beneath the Willow."

More to the point of the craft of writing in this podcast, I explain the three narrative devices often used in thrillers and refer to "Story Grid," an excellent, comprehensive how-to-write book.

I also include a few words about interviews. That is, I interview authors on my podcast show. If you are an author and interested in interviewing on "In the Know!" please complete the Interview Request Form and send to

Meanwhile, take a few moments to listen to the podcast and be sure to comment!
